Eger and its wines cannot be separated from each other for over a thousand years; therefore the inhabitants of Eger are rightly proud of their excellent wines.
The wine-district was established on the south slope of the volcanic Bükk Mountain and its wines are worthily called world-famous. The excellent wine-growing soil is based on volcanic rhyolite tuff rock, which ensures full-bodied wines with high alcohol content. The district is especially good for the growing of red wine. The size of this wine-district is 5.218 hectares. The best and most famous settlements in the wine-district are Eger, Egerszalók, Ostoros, and Andornaktálya.
